Harvest: 10.22-01.23
With this coffee from the Gakuyu-Ini Washing Station in Kirinyaga, we herald the arrival of the fresh harvest from Kenya - and are pleased to present this outstanding coffee. An intense and exceptionally clear acid structure is accompanied by floral notes and meets a rich, complex sweetness that is second to none. Combined, this makes for a picture-perfect example of washed-processed coffees from Kenya.
The Gakuyu-Ini Washing Station is run by the Thirikwa Farmers Cooperative Society and is located in the Kirinyaga region of Kenya. Some of the world's most outstanding coffees grow there. The foothills of the extinct volcano Mount Kenya offer almost perfect conditions for growing excellent coffee, thanks to their exceptionally mineral-rich soil and perfect climatic conditions at an altitude of 1700m. Due to the outstanding quality, coffees from the Gakuyu-ini Washing Station regularly score high in cuppings. This is also reflected in the price that the cooperative can pay the farmers: over the last five years, these have been among the highest prices in the region. But this is not the only way in which the Gakuyu-Ini Washing Station demonstrates its intention to be part of future-oriented coffee cultivation. In order to work more sustainably, the water used in processing is recycled and returned to the drinking water cycle.
All our coffees are traceable back to the farm. We work exclusively with importers who share our values. Only ecologically, economically and socially sustainable coffee enters our roaster.
We always buy our coffee seasonally. Our range changes several times a month to always roast the freshest beans. We want each coffee to highlight the specificity of its terroir.
Roasting is a craft and that's how we practice it. Our roasting team around the German Roastmaster of 2018, Kilian Seger, invests a lot of time in profile development and quality control.
