With the Shanga, we seamlessly continue our tradition of great Rwandan naturals. Unlike the Nova for example, however, the Shanga comes from the southern province of Rwanda. As a filter, sweet fruity notes in particular find their way into the cup, and the espresso is reminiscent of wine gum and cookie.
For us, it is already the third coffee from Simbi Washing Station that we are allowed to obtain. Located in the Huye District of Rwanda's southern province, it was only built in 2011 and 2012 and is privately owned by Abdul Rudahunga. The 2013 season was the one in which it was finally possible to take off. 80% of the 85 employees at the time were women.
Abdul was originally inspired to produce coffee by his grandmother, who was also a farmer. She was one of the few Rwandan women who at the time was already growing and roasting coffee herself, even for her own enjoyment.
